On the 15th July, the Oldbury Writing Group attended Patrick Barlow’s production of the classic thriller The 39 Steps at the Oldbury Rep Theatre.
It was a refreshingly original take on a hugely popular spy story: a rip-roaring mixture of Alfred Hitchcock and John Buchan with liberal doses of Spike Milliganesque slapstick thrown in for good measure.
The performance was impeccable, aesthetically perfect and technically brilliant, with cast and crew giving one hundred per cent.
Patrick Barlow’s adaptation is witty, jaw-droppingly clever and ground-breakingly durable.
The curtains opened and closed to a packed and appreciative audience.
